Arindam Sarkar

Arindam Sarkar works at the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) as Assistant General Manager (AGM) and currently posted with the Department of Regulation (DoR), where he is responsible for formulation of regulations for the banking sector in India. He has a rich and multi-geography experience in regulation and supervision of financial entities in the areas of banking, non-banking, cooperatives, payments and settlement systems, financial inclusion, and development. He has closely worked in the core central banking ecosphere comprising policy formulation, regulatory interventions, supervision of regulated entities, policy implementation, financial inclusion, economic development etc.

He holds a Bachelor’s in economics (hons.) from Presidency College, Kolkata; Master’s in economics with a specialisation in world economy, followed by M.Phil. and Ph.D. in economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. His M.Phil. research focused on the analysis of the emerging prospects of insurance sector in rural India from the perspective of density and penetration, and his Ph.D. research delved upon the performance and scope of Indian banks in rural India in credit disbursal and deposit mobilisation.

He has published comprehensive papers in reputed journals. His research focuses on policy-relevant and contemporary issues. He broadly specialises in the areas of banking and development economics.
