Christophe Jalil Nordman

Christophe Jalil Nordman is Senior Research Fellow (Directeur de Recherche) at the French Research Institute for Sustainable Development (IRD), affiliated to the Institute of Labor Economics (IZA), currently assigned to the French Institute of Pondicherry (India), and the mixed research unit DIAL (IRD, University Paris-Dauphine, France). After a Ph.D. in development economics at the University of Paris-I Panthéon-Sorbonne (2002), he joined the University of Oxford, and the IRD in 2004. His research focuses on the various dimensions of labour in developing countries, including the formation of earnings, skills (cognitive and non-cognitive) and social networks, discrimination, employment and household vulnerabilities, and the labour consequences of migrations. His former regional focus was North and West Africa, Madagascar, Vietnam, and Bangladesh. In the Social Sciences Department of the French Institute of Pondicherry, he is directing the LAKSMI programme (LAbour, sKills, Social networks and Mobilities in India), and currently coordinating a longitudinal socio-economic data collection in South India (NEEMSIS) focusing on households’ financial practices, labour, skills, social networks, and mobilities in rural Tamil Nadu.
