Parth J. Shah
Dr. Parth J Shah is the President of Centre for Civil Society (CCS), a public policy think tank advancing personal, economic and political freedoms. In a latest survey, CCS was ranked the number 1 think tank in India and 51 globally.
The Centre aims to usher in an intellectual revolution that encourages people to look beyond the obvious, think beyond good intentions and act beyond activism. CCS promotes choice, competition and community based policy reforms. Through research, advocacy and outreach, the Centre is reinvigorating civil society and rightsizing political society.
Dr. Shah's research and advocacy work focus on the themes of economic freedom (law, liberty and livelihood campaign), choice and competition in education (fund students, not schools), property rights approach for the environment (terracotta vision of stewardship), and good governance (new public management and the duty to publish). He has edited Morality of Markets, Friedman on India, Profiles in Courage: Dissent on Indian Socialism, Do Corporations Have Social Responsibility? and co-edited Law, Liberty & Livelihood: Making a Living on the Street; Terracotta Reader: A Market Approach to the Environment; BR Shenoy: Theoretical Vision and BR Shenoy: Economic Prophecies; and Agenda for Change

This column argues that the degree of freedom of not just parents, but also of school principals, teachers and education providers is a key determinant of quality and equity in education. It outlines reforms to promote the right to ‘education of choice’.
