Ivailo Izvorski is a Practice Manager in the Macroeconomics and Fiscal Management Global Practice of the World Bank and the co-author of Diversified Development: Making the Most of Natural Resources in Eurasia.
Since the start of 2015, Ivailo oversees the work of the Bank economists working on Turkey, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, the five countries of the Western Balkans, and the 11 countries that have joined the EU since 2004. Ivailo is also leading the community of practice on Diversified Development, Middle Income Traps and Convergence.
Prior to his current assignment, Ivailo was the sector manager of the Bank economists working on Russia, Central Asia, Turkey, and the Southern Caucasus and before that the Lead Economist for economic policy in East Asia and the Pacific, where he was the principal author of the periodic East Asia update.
Before joining the Bank, Ivailo worked on Europe and Central Asia and Africa at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Institute of International Finance. Ivailo is a Bulgarian national and holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Yale University.
