Jayati Sarkar is a Professor of Economics at Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research, Mumbai. She has a PhD from the University of Southern California.

Her field of specialisation is institutional economics and her current research interests are in corporate ownership and governance in emerging economies, business groups, public sector enterprise reforms and performance. She has published in several international journals, and has also published several book chapters on banking and corporate governance.
