Soumi Roy Chowdhury is an Associate Fellow at the National Council of Applied Economic Research, India. She completed her Ph.D. in Economics from the University of New Mexico. She is an applied researcher with experience in conducting and supervising field research primarily in India and Nepal. Her research interests lie in the areas of health, development, and gender issues.
Soumi has been working on multiple interdisciplinary research projects on issues such as the impacts of air and water pollution on health, alcohol taxation rates in India, and local governance, in collaboration with several partner organisations such as the World Health Organization and Tata Centre for Development at the University of Chicago. Her published work includes research on domestic violence, estimation of the economic cost of diseases among others. She also works closely on contingent valuation methods.
