Tanushree Goyal is a doctoral candidate in comparative government at Nuffield College, University of Oxford. Before beginning her Ph.D. programme, Tanushree completed her first degree in computer science and engineering in New Delhi, and a second (research) Master's degree in politics at the University of Amsterdam, Netherlands. Her research interests include questions of democratic accountability, state capacity and the political economy of development, with a focus on South Asia.

In her Ph.D. research, she examines how within-party politics influences the allocation of bureaucratic capacity, and shapes public goods provision across regions within India. In another ongoing project, she analyses how new parties organise themselves by studying the unusual and fast-paced rise of the urban anti-corruption party, the AAP (Aam Aadmi Party) in India. This research based on her Master's thesis builds on several years of fieldwork and engagement with the AAP since the party’s formation. In several other ongoing papers, she examines problems of democratic accountability, such as, vote buying, corruption, and political selection, with a geographical interest in South Asia. In all these projects, she combines evidence from quantitative analysis with in-depth fieldwork.
