Amlan Das Gupta is currently Associate Professor at the School of Banking & Finance at O.P. Jindal Global University in Sonipat. Prior to this, he has worked with various institutions as a teacher and researcher such as Indian Statistical Institute Delhi, and Institute of Financial Management and Research.

He holds a master's degree in quantitative economics from Indian Statistical Institute, Delhi, and completed his PhD. in Economics from the University of British Columbia in 2014. His research interests lie in the fields of development economics, environmental economics, and economics of climate change.

भारत में छोटे पशु पालक किसानों पर जलवायु परिवर्तन का प्रभाव

भारत में काफी संख्या में कृषि परिवार अपनी आय बढ़ाने और अपने परिवार के पोषण में सुधार लाने के लिए पशुपालन तथा दूध उत्पादन कार्य में लगे हुए हैं। यह आलेख इस बात की जांच करता है कि वैश्विक तापमान वृद्धि विशेष रूप से दूध उत्पादन में गिरावट के माध्यम से किस प्रकार छोटे पशु पालक किसानों को प्रभावित करती है। पाया गया है कि दूध उत्पादन पर ऊँचे अधिकतम या न्यूनतम तापमान का महत्वपूर्ण नकारात्मक प्रभाव पड़ता है, और सबसे अधिक प्रभाव 35°C से ऊपर के तापमान पर पड़ता है।

Impact of climate change on smallholder dairy farmers in India

A considerable number of agricultural households in India engage in livestock rearing and milk production to supplement their income and improve household nutrition. This article examines how global warming impacts smallholder dairy farmers, particularly through a decline in milk yields. It finds a significant negative impact of higher maximum or minimum temperatures on milk yield, with the highest impact for the range above 350C.
