Ian K. McDonough is Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Southern Methodist University (SMU). Ian’s research interests are in the general area of applied microeconomics, with particular interests in microeconometrics, economics of food security, health economics, and urban economics. His work has been published in leading economics journals including, among others, Journal of Econometrics, Journal of Applied Econometrics, American Journal of Agricultural Economics, Oxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics, and Regional Science and Urban Economics.

Dynamics of achievement gap between public and private school students

The achievement gap between public and private school students is well-documented in the literature on education in India, but there has not been sufficient focus on the dynamics of this gap over time. Analysing Young Lives Survey data on student test scores from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, this article suggests that very little convergence is expected, as students make their way through middle and high school.
