Jennifer Richmond

Jennifer is a former research assistant at Center for Global Development (CGD) where she worked on research related to natural resources, energy, and climate. Prior to joining CGD, she worked as a consultant with Oil Change International on greening foreign aid for energy projects and collecting data on international oil and gas shipments. She holds an M.A. in global environmental policy from American University and a B.S. in political science from Shepherd University. For her graduate capstone project, she collaborated with the World Resources Institute to establish a best practices guide of corporate social responsibility for multinational energy companies.

Are India's government-subsidised solar shops thriving or barely surviving?
Government of India’s Akshay Urja programme sought to support the establishment of at least one shop per district for the sale of subsidised solar-powered technologies. Based on a survey of shop owners, this column finds that while the programme has been successful in establishing a network of solar shops across the country, many of the owners struggle to connect their products to large markets of consumers.
