Olivier Charnoz

Olivier Charnoz is an interdisciplinary scholar in the Social Sciences. He joined the Agence Française de Développement (French Development Agency) in 2002 to work in the cabinet of the CEO, Jean-Michel Severino. In late 2007, he joined the Research Department to lead an international research programme with long-term fieldwork in five countries: China, India, Brazil, Indonesia and St. Lucia. Entitled ‘Local Politics, Global Impacts’ this programme looks at the international consequences of local power games. Case studies include the protection of biodiversity, the fight against emerging diseases and the energy-climate nexus.

He is an alumnus of France’s Ecole Normale Superieure, the University of Chicago, the Sorbonne University and Paris Dauphine. He graduated in econometrics, sociology, management sciences and philosophy. He also holds a Ph.D. in political science (International Relations) from the London School of Economics and Political Science. He holds honorary research fellowships at the Centre for the Study of Global Governance (LSE Global Governance) and at the Kadoorie Institute of the University of Hong Kong. He also teaches at Sciences Po Paris (Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris).
