Praveen K. Jha
Praveen K Jha, Professor of Economics and Chairperson of the Centre for Economic Studies and Planning (CESP), School of Social Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India. He is one of the Editors of a tri-continental journal, Agrarian South: Journal of Political Economy. His major area of research and teaching is political economy of development with focus on Indian economy, labour economics, agricultural economics, economics of education, public finance and history of economic thought. He has authored/edited a number of books and monographs to his credit.

Insights from long-term studies of Indian villages
Much of our knowledge of change in rural areas depends on longitudinal village studies. Drawing upon a number of village studies carried out over the years in India, this column provides a broad picture of how the economic and social structures of villages are changing, and the consequences for production, employment, migration, inequality and other key issues.
