Rodolphe Desbordes

Rodolphe Desbordes is Professor of Economics at SKEMA Business School in France. He was previously a Reader (Associate Professor) in Economics at the University of Strathclyde. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Sciences Po, Paris and a Ph.D. in International Economics from the University of Paris I Pantheon-Sorbonne. His research interests cover the fields of foreign direct investment, economic growth, epidemics, and applied econometrics.

Little evidence for 'too much finance'
The current consensus that the finance-growth nexus is more complex than previously assumed has led to concerns about ‘too much finance’. Using a large panel dataset over six decades, this article finds some evidence of a detrimental effect of ‘too much finance’, but not for highly financially developed countries or for the long-term growth trajectories of countries with intermediate levels of financial development.
