Rohan Gudibande
Rohan Ravindra Gudibande is currently a visiting researcher at the German Development Institute (DIE) working on topics related to green financing. He completed his Ph.D. in Development Economics from the Graduate Institute, Geneva in September 2016. Rohan holds a Masters in International Studies from the Graduate Institute, Geneva and a Masters in Development Economics from SOAS, University of London. He holds a B.A. in Economics from Loyola College, University of Madras. Prior to DIE, Rohan has consulted for the IMF, UNCTAD, ILO and Permanent Mission of India to the UN on issues ranging from: (i) development financing, (ii) trade and gender, (iii) north-south free trade agreements, (iv) intellectual property agreements, and (vi) innovation policy. His core research interests are in conflict, applied labour economics and development financing. His recent work focusses on conflict, immigration and informal labour markets in India, Switzerland and Turkey.

Minimum wage legislation for domestic workers: Does it work?
Between 2005 and 2009, for the first time, seven Indian states notified minimum wages for domestic workers. This column evaluates the impact of the legislation in terms of real wages and employment opportunities for domestic workers in four of these states. It finds that notifying minimum wages by itself has limited impact; there is a need for strong and transparent monitoring mechanisms.
