Sandeep Paul

Sandeep Paul is a Research Assistant with Indian Council for Relations on International Economic Relations (ICRIER), New Delhi and has been working on projects related to urban development and development finance. Sandeep holds a keen interest in interdisciplinary research and is also interested in themes related to sustainable development, climate change, and agriculture. Currently he is working on studies on the theme of financial inclusion, with special focus on consumer finance, microcredit, and fin-tech innovations. Sandeep holds a Master's degree in Development Studies from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai and a B.A. (Hons.) in Economics from Hans Raj College, Delhi University.

Financing scale-up of rooftop solar power via municipal bonds
While India’s solar power generation capacity has increased dramatically in recent years, the rate of deployment of rooftop solar is still insufficient to achieve the national targets. In this post, Goldar and Paul recommend the use of municipal bonds to support the scale-up of rooftop solar. Applying their proposed bond model to Surat and New Delhi, they illustrate how rooftop solar can become competitive and benefit different types of consumers in these cities.
