Vartika Singh

Vartika Singh is Research Manager at Evidence for Policy Design (EPoD), India where she oversees several research-policy partnerships on the gender and governance portfolios of EPoD. She also manages the training partnerships of EPoD India. Prior to EPoD, she was working as Research Analyst with International Food Policy Research Institute on large scale behavioural economic experiments with farmers across South Asia on assessing demand for new agricultural technology. Vartika has a Master's degree in Development Studies from Tata Institute of Social Sciences in Mumbai, and a Bachelor's in Economics from Hindu College at Delhi University.

India’s progress in reducing infant and maternal mortality is rather slow. This column shows the extent of shortfall of gynaecologists and auxiliary nurse midwives - the frontline of the battle against infant and maternal mortality – across health facilities in the country. It argues that along with absenteeism in public services, vacancies is a crucial area that requires improvement.
