Yajing Jiang

Dr.Yajing Jiang is an Associate Principal in the Antitrust & Competition Practice of Charles River Associates (CRA). Her research interests include empirical industrial organisation, econometrics, and applied microeconomics. She has developed structural identification and estimation strategies with a focus on online marketplaces, from both the matching and auction perspectives. At CRA, she has worked on merger and litigation cases in a variety of industries, such as information technology, industrial goods, retail, and online platforms in front of the antitrust authorities in the US, Canada, and China. She earned her Ph.D. in Economics from Johns Hopkins University.

Does non-farm growth in rural areas reduce intergenerational educational mobility?

While the growth of the non-farm sector in a rural economy is known to reduce poverty, it may also exacerbate inequality. Comparing rural India and rural China the study finds that there is lower intergenerational education mobility in the former. Farmers’ sons in India attain higher schooling relative to non-farm sons when the father has low education, but the advantage flips when the father has over 10 years of education.
