Abigail Adams
Abigail Adams is an Associate Professor in economics at the University of Oxford in association with New College, and a Research Fellow at the Institute for Fiscal Studies, London.
Professor Adams’ research develops new ways of bringing economic models of decision-making to data in a flexible, yet theory-consistent, manner. Recent work includes articles in the American Economic Review, the Economic Journal, and the Modern Law Review. Her applied research includes work on access to justice and the economic incentives to bring claims to Employment Tribunals, an investigation into the UK’s 'Cost of Living Crisis' and its implications for poverty measurement, and an ongoing project on ‘gig-economy’ employment.

ग्रामीण राजस्थान में किशोरियां अक्सर कम उम्र में पढ़ना छोड़ देती हैं और कम उम्र में हीं उनकी शादी भी हो जाती है। इस आलेख में बेटी की शिक्षा और विवाह की उम्र के बारे में औसत अभिभावक की पसंदों, तथा विवाह बाजार में उसकी संभावनाओं के विकास के बारे में आत्मगत धारणाओं की जानकारी सामने लाने के लिए एक अनूठी प्रविधि विकसित की गई है। इसमें पाया गया है कि एक मनपसंद वर ढूंदना लड़कियों की शिक्षा का एक महत्वपूर्ण प्रेरक है। लड़कियों को स्कूलों में टिके रहने में मददगार नीतियों से उनके कम उम्र में विवाह होने रोका जा सकता है।
Why do parents invest in girls’ education? Evidence from rural India
Adolescent girls in rural Rajasthan frequently leave education early and marry young. This article develops a novel methodology to elicit average parental preferences over a daughter's education and age of marriage, and subjective beliefs about the evolution of her marriage-market prospects. It finds that prospects of finding a desirable groom are an important driver of girls’ education Policies that help girls stay in school can prevent early marriage.
